From: Paul R. [hansolo@nchi.quik.com] Sent: Saturday, February 10, 2001 2:09 PM To: fdadockets@oc.fda.gov Subject: Docket No. 00N-1396 I believe the FDA should require mandatory pre-market safety testing of Genetically Modified Foods, the FDA should require companies (and the FDA) to perform a pre-market envirnomental review of each new product. As a consumer I want mandatory labeling of any food product which contains GE foods - including details as to which foods in the product are Genetically Modified. There should be no limit on voluntary labeling of foods and food products which are free of GE food - I want to be able to see easily if a product chooses to advertise itself as GE Free. We the public need more than a just a letter of notification prior to the marketing of a GE food - we want time for an complete review (refer to the European model if you have questions on how to do this). We can not let the food companies market what they want with out a proper review. Sincerely, Paul Reifsnyder 9386 Landings Sq, L-301 Des Plaines, IL 60016
