Comments for FDA General
Questions
1. General Comments I would like to put my two cents in about GE foods and the labeling of them. As a mother and a person who is very cautious of what I feed myself and my family I am demanding, yes I am demanding as a citizen and taxpayer of the United States, that all GE foods be labeled so that I will be aware of what I'm putting into my body! I am a person who goes to great lengths to keep my family healthy, everthing from buying organic and farm raised foods to growing my own vegetables. When I go to purchase a product in a store I READ THE LABELS to be assured of what is in that product. The American public has the right to know what we are ingesting and to have the choice to not put something into our bodies we think could potentially be harmful, but since the government sees fit to allow suppliers of our food to grow and distribute GE food without our knowledge you are making it impossible to control my own health and welfare! Yes on behalf of myself and my family I demand that all GE foods be labeled and also any animals that were feed these foods so that I can avoid using them because in my opinion they are dangerous. And on the subject of GE plants and animals I demand that more testing be done before anything else is put on the market. I know the government is allowing the developers of this technology to have there way when it comes to putting these products into common usage but I have read and heard many stories of how little testing the government has done on these products and that a lot of testing was done by the companies developing these products. To allow them to do their own testing and our goverment accepting the results, what a bad idea. This could blow up in our faces!and there could be no way to reverse the effects on our world once it happens. Do I have to remind you of bringing plants like kudzu into an enviroment where it doesn't belong and the devasting results. Please stop before it is too late! Lets have some more responsible behavior for the future of our planet and not worry about the profits of a few companies. I know these companies tought these inovations as a way to feed the world, but there are safer and easier ways to do it and it would be more cost effective for the poorer countries of the world. I can't help but relate this subject of GE foods with the nucular bomb, once we let the genie out of the bottle we have never been able to put him back, lets not do the same with something that would change the make-up of the natural world forever! From a very concerned citizen, Kathy Katz
