(FDA Dockets 00N-1396 and 00D-1598) Dear Corporate and Government Leaders, Genetically engineered food ingredients or crops should not be allowed on the market until: 1) Independent safety testing demonstrates they have no harmful effects on human health or the environment, 2) They are labeled to ensure the consumer's right-to-know, and 3) The biotechnology corporations that manufacture them are held responsible for any harm. Please do not let companies who use genetically engineered ingredients to their products escape this. It can be profitable to be organic--if Paul Newman can do it, so can they. In the end, all of us will benefit. Think of those who may have contracted diseases through use of GE products and the cost involved medically--then think of our budget and remember all the benefits we all will have being organic...health costs alone would justify encouraging organically grown products.
