Comments for FDA General
Questions
1. General Comments I oppose the FDA's proposed role and guidance on genetically engineered foods. Voluntary labeling and notification are insufficient. I want clear information so that I can make food choices for the sake of my own health, that of my family and the environment. Citizens have the right to know what they are buying in the grocery store. All Genetically Engineered foods and food ingredients should be clearly labeled, so I am informed and have a choice. Genetically engineered foods should not be assumed to be safe and should be subjected to mandatory pre-marketing safety testing. Testing should be long term, and the precautionary principle should apply. There should be a moratorium on Genetically Engineered foods until long-term studies show they are safe for human health and the environment.
