Despite overwhelming consumer demand, the FDA has failed to require safety testing, mandatory labeling and other consumer protections for GE foods. I am writing to request that the FDA reconsider its stance on this issue. Although many industry sources have issued statements regarding the safety of these processes, it has yet to be proven to my satisfaction. Until such time, I consider it a duty of the FDA to require proper testing and labeling of these products. Following is a list of the actions that I consider necessary for the FDA to take at this point: 1. FDA must Require mandatory pre-market safety testing 2. FDA must Require mandatory pre-market environmental review 3. FDA must Require mandatory labeling of GE foods This Notification policy is an insult to consumers, and irresponsibly ignores strong scientific evidence of numerous potential health and environmental risks of GE foods. These Rules appear to be a decision made to convenience industry at the expense of public health, consumer information, and the environment. Thank you for your attention.
