Genetically engineered (ge) foods must be treated as a specific 'class of foods' by the epa because these foods have been genetically altered. This is a public health issue, as well as a consumer safety issue. Potential hazards that these foods could pose include unexpected allergic reactions, or other human health problems, unexpected environmental effects such as rogue genes crossing into the wild, negative effects on insects, pollination failure, migratory failure, unexpected mutations, and diseases that cross the species barrier. Recall on these problems would be virtually impossible at any future date - without labeling. Consumers as a group have the right to know which foods are genetically altered. Please be responsible in public policy - insist on labelling ge foods!!
