I am writing to voice my concern about the proposed voluntary labeling regulations for genetically engineered foods.
As I understand it, the proposed regulations allow for voluntary “GE Free” food labeling. This effectively puts the burden on companies who shun GE technology to label their products as such. The burden of responsibility to inform the public of the use of GE technology in food products should rest with the companies that produce these products.
I urge the FDA to require companies that use GE technology to label their food products as containing genetically engineered foods.
