(FDA Dockets 00N-1396 and 00D-1598) Dear Corporate and Government Leaders, Genetically engineered food ingredients or crops should not be allowed on the market until: 1) Independent safety testing demonstrates they have no harmful effects on human health or the environment, 2) They are labeled to ensure the consumer's right-to-know, and 3) The biotechnology corporations that manufacture them are held responsible for any harm. I have food allergies that have gotten worse over the last several years. I believe that genetically altered food products have caused the increase in my health problems. The effects of combining natural things in a way that nature never intended can not be quantified in any meaningful way when it is ingested by our bodies which have very complex systems. I first became more aware of these issues when I had severe headaches and tremors due to ingesting aspertane (spelling?) which was touted as a natural substance. This proved to me that these scientific cocktails of ingredients have only one benefit and that is profit for agri-business. It is critical that my food products are as pure as possible. I remain convinced that corn kernels injected with pesticides and fertilizers carry those components to the final product. My request for labeling is not a trivial or unreasonable request.
