I have heard the following about the proposed regulations: They * Do not require mandatory pre-market safety testing * Do not require pre-market environmental review * Do not require mandatory labeling of GE foods * Restrict voluntary labeling of non-GE foods * Require a mere letter of notification prior to the marketing of a GE food * Fail to ensure public access to adequate information for independent review * Are supported by industry and opposed by consumer groups Since GMOs are life forms, their release into the environment can cause untold harm in perpetuity. They are not like chemicals that can be cleaned up or destroyed. We have no idea what effect these mutants will have on our natural world. These products need long-term and stringent testing. We do not know what health effects they may cause, allergies they may trigger, what lower nutritional value they may have. Pre-market testing should be mandatory. As a consumer, I would appreciate labeling of GMO products, because I do not want to buy products containing them. I am quite content with the offerings that God has created for me, and I consider it an infringement of my rights as a religious person to be forced to eat food created by man and not by God. Yours sincerely, Sue Ellen Davis
