We are greatly alarmed with your proposed new rules on genetically engineered (GE) foods. Despite all the concerns by scientists, doctors, and consumers alike, you, the agency that is supposed to protect us, are not requiring health and ecological safety testing nor mandatory labelling of these unnatural, laboratory-created foods. This is outrageous and downright irresponsible. You are allowing the companies who manufacture and sell these "foods" to conduct a giant experiment on me, my children and my future grandchildren! Why are you in such a hurry to approve these new products? What is the true agenda, and whose interests are you really serving? Why are you not requiring labelling and safety testing? What is your motive here? You must change the proposed rules to include the following conditions: 1. FDA must require mandatory pre-market comprehensive environmental review. 2. FDA must require mandatory pre-market long-term health testing. 3. FDA must require manatory labelling of GE products. 4. FDA must end its cozy relationship with industries it purports to be regulating. As Dr. Jonas Salk lamented, at a dinner hosted by Barbara Bush in Washington, DC several years ago which I had the privilege to attend, while human beings have accomplished so much and advanced so far technologically, "we have become our own pathogens!" That is to say, by the very act of growing and distributing our food, we are poisoning, even killing, ourselves and our planet! Look how far we have fallen and at what we are actually doing! It is up to those of you there at the FDA, who have any sort of conscience, ethics or integrity, to reverse these trends, and to truly make the health, safety, and welfare of our citizens your FIRST AND FOREMOST PRIORITY, and to make these profit-motivated corporations accountable for the impact they are having on human life worldwide. I urge you to change these proposed GE foods rules, and to ensure that what is being offered as "food" by these laboratories will, in fact, promote life and health and not destroy it. We are watching your actions, and we hope you will represent us in your decisions. Thanking you for this opportunity to comment, I am Yours truly, Stavroula Psaraki
