From: Randerso2@aol.com Sent: Tuesday, April 03, 2001 11:05 PM To: fdadockets@oc.fda.gov Subject: Docket 00N-1396 & Docket 00D-1598 To the FDA, Concerning the above Docket numbers, I request that you require health and ecological safety testing for all genetically modified/engineered foods. I request the right to know what I am eating in order to consciously choose it or reject it. I assume your charter includes a responsibility to inform we the public of the pro's and con's of ingesting certain drugs and foods and other substances you deem fit to comment on. I also assume your charter mentions nothing about pandering to the public your ideas about whether the public is capable of making their own decisions about what they choose to eat. I demand that you: * require mandatory pre-market safety testing of GE foods * require pre-market environmental review of GE foods * require mandatory labeling of GE foods * do not restrict voluntary labeling of non-GE foods(your being bought out by the bioengineering companies is showing and is the beginning of your demise) * ensure public access to adequate information for independent review It is public knowlege that people have been allowed to work for a biotech company, then work for the FDA writing the regulatory rules on that company's product, then go back to working for the company. Ninety-two percent of FDA advisory committee meetings had at least one conflict of interest. It is a wonder that anyone has any respect at all for you. I also assume that no employee of the FDA is allowed to invest in the bioengineering companies you so routinely protect the interests of at the expense of the public interest. If you and your employees are allowed to invest in these bioengineering companies, then you provide further proof of your lack of integrity and you are all fired as far as my tax dollars are concerned. Your position on Bovine Growth Hormone greatly demonstrated to me your lack of faith in protecting the public interest. You are such bad actors. Sincerely, Richard C.
