I urge the FDA to grant petition 98P-0151/CP1 to prohibit the slaughter of downed animals.  The way our livestock industry tortures animals by dragging or pushing with tractors those who cannot walk is not only inhumane but unconscionable.  I am ashamed to be an American when I think of the United States meat industry.  I haven't eaten meat in 20 years for this reason.
 
Please revise the regulations for handling, transporting, and slaughtering animals, and include humane inspections regularly at every slaughterhouse.
