From: Gemofield@aol.com Sent: Sunday, April 01, 2001 3:55 PM To: fdadockets@oc.fda.gov Subject: docket00N-1396 & docket00D1598 It is imperative that you require pre-market safety testing, pre-market environmental review and labeling on genetically modified foods. In this great country, we have come to expect the highest standards of food safety and public access to information. Somehow this standard is getting lost in an insane rush to get new technology into the mainstream of production foods. Genetically modified foods are so new and so under-researched that it is absolutely foolish to have them on grocery shelves. Since they are already available in foods, I insist that you label these foods. I do not want to eat them. I do not want to support those who use them in their food. As a consumer I believe that is the least that I should expect from a government that is there to serve the people. I believe that I am in the majority in this opinion and I implore you to listen to the voices of everyday people who are very concerned about our food. Thank you ~ Carol Conigliaro P.O.
