Kelly (R-NJ) to withdraw all fluoride products intended to be ingested for the claimed purpose of preventing dental caries. As the preponderance of the current scientific evidence shows that ingested fluoride does not provide any significant reduction in the incidence of tooth decay, but does cause permanent scarring of the enamel of the teeth in the form of dental fluorosis, your agency must act immediately to stop the marketing of fluoride-containing products for which your agency has never completed any complete scientific review process and given any specific approval for safety or effectiveness. The cost to unsuspecting parents for dental care to correct the damage to tooth structure and permanent impairment of a cosmetically desirable appearance is even further outweighed by the psychological punishment that a child must endure by a society that perceives the white opaque spots, brown stains, striations, and mottled and fracture-prone teeth as caused by their inattention to appropriate dental hygiene. Please act immediately to stop the suffering of those that take the extra step to protect their dental health, only to find that they have caused permanent damage. Sincerely, Jeff Green National Director
