From: Arlene Beebe [nanabeebe@rcn.com] Sent: Tuesday, October 17, 2000 4:25 PM To: FDADockets@oc.fda.gov Subject: docket 98P-0151/CP1 In reference to docket 98P-0151/CP1, we must prohibit the slaughter of downed animals. Animals too sick or injured even to stand should not be allowed to enter the food chain. This only increases the risk for bacterial contamination. As it's practically impossible to move these poor suffering downed animals humanely they are pushed with tractors or dragged with chains. This can be prevented with better care and handling in the first place. Removing the market for downed animals will provide an incentive for the industry to prevent downed animals. Arlene Beebe.
