FDA Commissioner Jane Henney Dockets Management Branch (HFA 305) Food and Drug Administration 5630 Fisher's Lane, rm. 1061 Rockville, MD 20852 RE: Docket No. 00N-1396, and 00D-1598 Dear Ms. Henney, Please reconsider your policy regarding genetically modified foods. A significant minority of the population has food allergies; it is hard enough to find things that are safe to eat without worrying whether one's food has had an allergen from another food introduced via genetic modification. Corporations already warn people with phenylketonuria when foods are toxic to them. Some foods contain warnings about nuts, for those who are allergic to them. Why not extend those protections to those who are allergic to other foods, to let us know that the foods we are eating might be toxic to us? We have a right to be fully informed about the food we eat, and I am appalled that the FDA does not recognize this. Sincerely, Mary E.
