Subject: Downed cows

Please grant petition to 98P-0151/CP1  Downed cows are inhumanely treated in 
the stock yards because they are to sick or injured to move and they should 
not be used for food, In addition some downed animals may be afflicted with 
diseases that may be passed to humans if they are eaten. Downed animals 
comprises a very small percentage of animals slaughtered, and prohibiting 
their marketing will cause no undue economic hardship. If animals intended 
for slaughter received better treatment 90%  of downed cows could be 
prevented removing the downed animals will provide an incentive to industy 
to prevent downed animals in the first place. thanks for your time please 
pass this into law.
