Food and Drug Administration 5600 Fishers Lane Rockville MD 20857-0001 Dear Dr. Henney: For years we have been hearing that the animals supplying the meat to our tables have been over zealously given large doses of antibiotics which is now showing its effect on us humans. As you well know, we are becoming increasingly resistant to more and more antibiotics. It is true that the medical overuse of antibiotics has compounded the problem but antibiotic use in animal productions needs to be aggressively researched. With the data described by the Union of Concerned Scientist, I urge The FDA to move now to establish a system for collecting basic data on agricultural antibiotic use in the United States. The information should be collected for both human and agricultural use and should include the class, indication, dosage, and treatment period. Please get the program active to collect and report data on the quantity of antibiotics used in U.S. agriculture. Thank you for considering this concern. Sincerely for the health of us all, Clara L.
