Subject: Antibiotic use in animals

I am very concerned that the sharp increase in the use of prophylactic
antibiotics by companies raising animals in mass for human consumption will
have catastrophic effects on the resistance of diseases to antibiotics.  Our
defenses against infectious diseases are too precious to gamble with.  We
must invest in the necessary research to determine the long-term effects of
heavy use of antibiotics in animal raising as soon as possible, and
formulate appropriate laws based on the results.

I urge you and the incoming administration to prioritize this issue which
may be vital to human health before we stumble into uncontrollable
epidemics.
