From: Jason Pociask [Jason.Pociask@domail.maricopa.edu] Sent: Thursday, January 11, 2001 5:24 PM To: fdadockets@oc.fda.gov Cc: notmilkman@notmilk.com Subject: Docket 99P-4613 Request Dear Sirs: Please comply with the appropriate US laws governing the DHHS/FDA, the Freedom of Information Act, and the FDA charter, which is to protect US Citizens from hazardous substances. Monsanto's rbGH "Posilac" bovine growth hormone substance has been proven to be a significant hazard that accelerates the growth and proliferation of cancers, both in test animals and humans. Use of this product has also increased the amounts of antibiotic chemicals administered to cows treated with rbGH, and a huge increase in immune cells--pus--in milk, both of which are passed on to milk consumers--mostly children. The tests which measured how much rbGH present in milk would survive pasteurization were a sham, in that the typical 15 second exposure of milk to high temperatures was ignored and a much longer heating interval used for testing. In addition, much of the testing that was done on "rbGH" was rendered invalid by the disclosure, after approval by the FDA, that there was a miscoded amino acid in the 191 amino acid encoding sequence of the tested version of rbGH which the developer, Monsanta, corrected prior to mass production. The rbGH now in use is not the same chemical compound that was tested by the FDA. Additionally, I understand that the FDA has not complied, within the allocated time allowed by US law, with a FOIA request to divulge any and all communications between FDA and Monsanto (companies) regarding the testing, evaluation and approval of rbGH. Please comply with the FOIA law. Sincerely, Jason Pociask PO Box 27403 Tempe, AZ 85285 (602) 625-5888 Jason.Pociask@domail.maricopa.edu
