Please grant petition 98P-0151/CP1, prohibiting the slaughter of downed
animals. Sick animals should not be allowed to enter the food chain;
could be afflicted with BSE; it is impossible to move downed animals
humanely; downed animals are a small percentage of  animals slaughtered,
posing no economic hardship to meat producers if they are not slaughtered
for food; industry experts estimate that 90% of downed animals could be
prevented through better care and handling; removing the market for
downed animals would serve as an incentive to the industry to prevent
downed animals. Thank you!
