The Farm Sanctuary has a petition to prohibit the slaughter of downed animals - docket # 98P-0151/CP1. Please support this. As you well know, animals who are too sick or injured to stand should not be included in the food chain. Bacterial contamination increases with this kind of slaughter. In addition, downed animals must not be treated inhumanely - the very act of moving them to slaughter is cruel and tortures the already suffering animal. On the economic side, industry experts estimate that 90% of downed animals can be prevented with better care and handling. If there is no economic benefit from downed animals, the industry may take better care of their animals in the process. Thank you, Jean Felsted
