From: JWic389393@aol.com Sent: Saturday, December 30, 2000 3:51 PM To: FDADockets@oc.fda.gov Subject: 98P-0151/CP1 To USDA Dockets Management Branch: Please grant petition 98P-0151/CP1 to prohibit the slaughter of downed animals. Animals who are too sick or injured even to stand should not be allowed to enter the human food chain. It is impossible to move downed animals humanely. Many times they are oved by tractors or dragged with chains. Or, they are left to suffer until they die in a heap somewhere. Please do no let this cruelty continue. Besides the cruelty factor, there is always the risk of bacterial contamination from downed animals. The marketing and slaughter of downed animals is unacceptable. Thank you for your consideration to this. Sincerely, Janice Wickham 626 NW Lindsay Ct. Bend, OR 97701
