From: Rosanne Tarantolo [rosannet@earthlink.net] Sent: Wednesday, December 27, 2000 6:48 PM To: FDADockets@oc.fda.gov Subject: docket number 98-0151/CP1 downed animals Subject Reference docket number 98-0151/CP1 We are writing to ask that any animal that is too sick or injured to the point of not being able to stand not be allowed to be killed for food and enter the human food chain. Not only is it disgustingly cruel to get these animals to the slaughter house, the risk of increased bacterial contamination and the possibility of the transmission of more serious disease is of extreme concern to the public. More care should be taken with the animals so that they are not abused and made a "downed" animal to begin with. All animals too sick or too brutally treated to get to slaughter should be humanely euthanized at the stockyards. This is only common sense. These animals and the human consumer need to be protected.
