Comments for FDA General
Questions
1. General Comments I am totally against bioengineered foods in any form. It is essential to maintain a broad and natural genetic pool of vegetables and fruits in order for plants to have the ability to adapt to earth changes such as the heating of the planet and possible sudden cold. These earth changes are described in much current scientific literature and not to be taken lightly. Secondly, I am afraid of contaminating food genetically with qualities that can hurt people and these genetic changes that are proposed are not tested. To be used they should at least be tested like drugs, but that is not very good as we find with 100,000 people dying each year from the proper use of drugs per research I am sure you are familiar with. Thirdly, there is no way that people will be able to know what foods have been genetically altered in practice. Even if some foods are labeled properly, presuming you would be willing to alienate farmers, there would be no feasible way to be sure labelling instructions were followed. And it is essential for the immediate safety of we human beings to be able to know and TO CHOOSE, that means to have a variety of whole natural foods to choose from. This is most unlikely to happen if bioengineered foods are permitted
