Dear FDA,
I am informed that proposed new rules under consideration re: Genetically
Engineered ("GE") foods do not require mandatory pre-market safety testing;
do not require pre-market environmental review; do not require mandatory
labeling; limit voluntary non-GE labeling; require a mere letter of
notification prior to marketing; and are unlikely to provide the public with
adequate information for independent review.
I strongly feel that the laxity of such rules, if adopted, will prove to
have a disastrously negative impact on both consumer choice and the health
and safety of the public.
