Henny, M.D. U.S. Food and Drug Administration 5600 Fischers Lane Rockville, Maryland 20857 Re: Petition docket number 00P-1602/CP 1, dated 11/6/00 16 February 2001 Dear Commissioner Henny: I write today to urge you to prevent, limit or stop the introduction of fluoride treatments into public water supplies. Michael Perrone of Assemblyman John Kelly's office reminds us all that when we are of successful at keeping fluoride out of our communities, it means that children are still being prescribed fluoride supplements; and just as water fluoridation is a violation of the right of informed consent so is fluoride supplementation where parents are under the false impression that the prescription is approved by the FDA as safe and effective. Please send a request to your supportive legislator, official, or health professional to endorse the petition to remove all unapproved fluoride supplements intended for ingestion for the purpose of reducing the incidence of tooth decay, on the grounds that the preponderance of scientific evidence shows that additional ingested fluoride exposure does not reduce tooth decay, but does cause permanent scarring of the tooth enamel. Kelly's petition to the FDA can be viewed and downloaded at: http://www.citizens.org/Food_Water_Safety/Fluoridation/Materials/web_pages/letter%20_%20to_FDA.htm Sincerely, John D. Melncyhuk, R.S. Hom.
