Comments for FDA General
Questions
1. General Comments I think it is a disservice to the American people if the FDA doesn't demand safety testing AND labeling of all bioengineered foods. The Department of Agriculture was formed to regulate the farming industry (ALL parts of it) as well as to PROTECT the interest of the citizens regarding how the food they eat is grown and processed. If the FDA's concern shifts to benefit and protect the interest of companies that alter our food, whose primary focus is money and greed, then what does that tell the rest of the world about the supposed 'greatest country in the world?' That the officials elected to protect it's people have been bought? How will those of us with life-threatening food allergies know if peanut or shellfish or bee genes have been spliced into their tomatoes for instance? How will we be guaranteed that 'superfoods' won't damage our organs? Some of these foods contain antibiotic markers as well as pesticide/herbicides built into each and every cell. If such stringent testing is required to test pharmaceuticals in every aspect, why should bioengineered foods be exempt? I urge you all to consider the repercussions of such a powerful technology allowed to run rampant. I respectfully urge you all to do what we, the American people, hired you to do: protect us... it's as simple as that. Danielle, Brady and Elizabeth Schoonover
