I oppose the FDA's current proposal to require makers of GE foods or ingredients only to consult with the FDA at least four months before releasing new products. Consultations don't offer the protection consumers want and need. They have no legal meaning and require no responsibility by companies to consumers.
I cannot support putting the burden of voluntary reporting on companies who already have shown they shun any restrictions or labeling or testing of their products.
I am concerned about the risks posed by genetically engineered foods and I believe these proposed rules only favor the interests of corporate agriculture and the biotechnology industry over my right to know about
and choose products with acceptable ingredients, just like I can with fat and cholesterol.
I request that you make labeling mandatory, so I can continue to enjoy my rights as an educated consumer, making appropriate food choices for me and my family.
Thank you for your consideration,
Tracy Miller
