From: Joan Penzenstadler [jpenz@earthlink.net] Sent: Tuesday, January 09, 2001 2:11 PM To: EXECSEC Subject: Establishment of reliable data base for antibiotic use in agriculture Dear Dr. Henney: As you know form various media and medical reports, the oversue of antibiotics in agriculture is contributing to the emergence of untreatable diseases in humans. As the Union of Concerned Scientists and other professional experts recommend, a reliable data base on antibiotic use in agriculture is needed for an effective national strategy to reduce antibiotic use. My wife (email address above) and I are already taking precautions to avoid purchases of dairy and meat products known to be produced form animals fed antibiotic drugs for nontherapeutic pruposes. But it's impossible to know that given present labeling laws and agricultural practises. We need to stop this widespread practise soon. Please pass this message to your incoming successor. Sincerely, Archie Gress 3205 Catalina Drive Austin, TX 78741
