From: Ford, Peter [FordP@sunchem.com] Sent: Tuesday, January 30, 2001 8:46 AM To: 'FDADockets@oc.fda.gov' Subject: Petition 98P-0151/CP1 > We are writing to urge you to grant petition 98P-0151/CP1 to prohibit the > slaughter of downed animals. > We ask this for the good of the animals and for the good of humans. It is impossible to move downed cattle humanely; instead, they are typically pushed with tractors or dragged with chains, causing injuries ranging from bruises and abrasions to broken bones and ligaments. Recent evidence shows some downed animals may be afflicted with a form of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (mad cow disease), a condition that is linked to a fatal illness in humans. Please grant petition 98P-0151/CP1. Sincerely, Peter and Janice Ford 74, Little Falls Road, Cedar Grove, New Jersey, 07009
