Please reconsider the proposal on voluntary labeling of bio-engineered food products. This should be mandatory so that the public has a right to choose. Right now, the only choice is certified organic. If (non-organic) conventional foods are also not allowed to state no bio-engineered ingredients, this does a great disservice to the small farmer. Bio-engineered foods have received no long-term testing before being fed to the public. Accepting the statements of probability from the corporations, as a opposed to true long-term, scientific testing, is equivalent to believing the used car salesman who states that his vehicle was used once a week to go around the block. If the position that bio-engineered foods are no different than conventional is accepted, than they should not be allowed to be patented.
Thank you
