This policy requiring voluntary labeling is an anti-consumer policy.
This is backward. A food should be labeled if it IS bioengineered, because the everyday consumer will assume that it is NOT bioengineered.
To not require labeling for these altered foods is a sneaky way of getting consumers to unwittingly buy them.
Further, if these foods are not supposed to be harmful, why would the producers be so reluctant to label them as such? Doesn't this put up a red flag for the FDA???
I consider this voluntary labeling policy an act of gross negligence by the FDA and urge you to require mandatory labelling if a food is genetically modified.
