Comments for FDA General
Questions
1. General Comments The greatest limitation to obtaing the benefits of gentic engineering for food crops is regaining the trust of the public. The action most cited by consumers as a confidence building measure is the candor of labelling genetically engineered foods. People simply don't like being kept in the dark on this subject. A brief statement of the fact that a product contains a genetically engineered crop, and a general statement about the action (or benefit) of the transgene, would serve both the public and the food industry well. It would even promote acceptance for the genetic engineering done by academic scientists like me, and industrial genetic engineers.
