The proposed rules are not strong enough to meet the public's demand for food safety. The FDA MUST require more testing of and more information about genetically engineered products.
I am concerned about the risks posed by genetically engineered foods and I reject these proposed rules. The proposed rules favor the interests of corporate agriculture and the biotechnology industry over the public's right to know about and choose products with acceptable
ingredients.
Many scientists and an international coalition of
governments call for precautionary testing and strict regulation of genetically engineered products to prevent harm to human health and the environment. The very first step which the FDA should require is MANDATORY LABELING. The public has a right to know about and choose the food they eat.
