Comments for FDA General
Questions
1. General Comments I believe the FDA should seriously consider reclassifying the antidiarrheal agents, particularly Lomotil@ and tincture of opium, as OTC. Loperamide is effective maybe 60% of the time in my particular case. Many dollars and treatments still lead me to the conclusion that government's protective role, while admirable, is perpetuating the rise of healthcare cost. Insurance companies and HMOs clearly contribute to the problem of rising costs which can be mitigated through easing of the government's OTC policies. I, for one and probably for many, feel that the prevailing OTC policies are patronizing, demeaning, and not overly friendly to the consumer's wallet. Thank you for providing this venue of communication.
