Comments for FDA General
Questions
1. General Comments The need to make more prescription drugs available OTC is extremely important to individuals, American citizenslike me, who can not purchase health insurance within the United States. Having access to affordable prescriptions can mean the difference between life and death. Currently I can not afford to pay for my needed prescriptions, but thankfully I live near the border of Mexico where I can go to purchase needed medications. For Example: In the US even generic Nizol costs $5.75 cents a pill, in Mexico I can purchase the Brand Name Nizol for $.98 a pill. The generic Paxil in the US would cost me $85.00 a month, and in Mexico I can purchase it for $45.00 a month. I also purchase many of my father's (age 79) heart medications because the US prices would cost me $500 a month and by being able to purchase them OTC in Mexico they cost me $230. TO KEEP PRESCRIPTION DRUGS FROM OTC AVAILABLITLY PROTECTS ONLY THE PROFITS OF STOCKHOLDERS AND NOT THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR US CITIZENS. Although some drug manufactures state OTC can lead to drug abuse, this arguement does not stand, because many Rx drugs are already abused by the doctors who write the prescriptions. So please help those of us who need affordabale and accessible prescriptions. Dr. Donna Iams, age 49, self-employed.
