Comments for FDA General
Questions
1. General Comments In general, making prescription drugs available over-the-counter should be a good thing. However, there is no automatic guarantee that the drug will cost less in this form. In addition, insurance will probably no longer pay for this drug. In my case, my health care plan requires only copays. So I pay either $5.00 or $15.00. I don't know if I would save money. Drug companies do need a reasonable return on their research investments. A drug company should not have to sell a product over the counter unless it chooses to or the patent has expired. Patents should not be renewable. Or should be renewable only for a limited time if the drug company can show cause. Depending on the drug, it should probably be labeled that it should not be taken without the advice of a physician. Thank you for your attention to my concerns on this matter. Sincerely, Allan R. Ellstrom
