Comments for FDA General
Questions
1. General Comments I would very much encourage you to make Claritin available over the counter. I used to use it for year-round allergies that made me miserable and it really helped me, but when my hours were cut at work I was no longer eligible for health insurance and could no longer afford to purchase prescription Claritin. Now I have a different kind of insurance but it only pays half of the cost and I can't afford $30 a month for it. If I could afford a trip to Canada I would go there and stock up. I think it's unconscionable that the drug companies are allowed to profiteer and hold hostage the public who foot most of the bill for r and d to develop these drugs. They are wildly profitable, several times other types of business, and I don't buy their claims that they won't be able to develop needed drugs if not allowed to make these huge profits. I suggest we call their bluff. Better, let their ability to do business here be predicated on the cessation of these types of practices/philosophies where the American people are ripped off. There is no good reason I should have to do without a drug that greatly improves my life because they want to maximize already enormous profits. They've had however long it's been to make money on Claritin. Now it's time to make it available over the counter. Thank you. Pat Simon
