Comments for FDA General
Questions
1. General Comments Please do everything possible to implement changes and ease the process by which consumers must contact a doctor to purchase many of today's drugs. The release of products for OTC sales will do much to ease the time-consuming exercise of calling and waiting for appointments, having to wait for referrals by primary physicians and in the long run save EVERY taxpayer many dollars. It usually takes our busy doctor two days before he gets to call us back after leaving a message to have a prescription refilled. It would certainly take some pressure off today's extremely busy physicians. The average consumer can be given credit for enough intelligence to use these OTC drugs wisely. Certainly there would be a great deal of savings all around, and it could be the START of a solution to the mess that we all have to endure because of the high cost of medicine, regulated by profit-making drug companies and the insurance companies' management of our medical needs. Many other countries make it possible for their citizens to manage much of their simple health problems with drugs made available to them without a physician's prescription. Let's see if we can learn something from them by easing the process that we must endure to purchase our medicines. I applaud the efforts of all involved in these discussions and hope to see many changes take place in the very near future. Please give the average consumer and taxpayer a break. Thanks for your help!!!
