Questions
1. General Comments I am speaking as an individual consumer- even though I do work in a healthcare field. I actually work in the clinical lab setting- so I have no affect on the pharmaceutical side. I want to say that as a patient, I notice that it first of all, it sometimes takes forever to get seen by a doctor. Secondly, the care is not as good as it used to be when they did not have quotas of 50 patients a day. I feel that these products and more should be available over the counter. I can't tell you how many times I have been furious that if I don't have my insurance card, and offer to pay cash- the pharmacy always responds with, 'Oh, well then that would be the cash price- not the insurance price' and they have to recalculate everything. It should be just one price for everyone. I know insurance companies don't pay as much as they should for healthcare, but I don't think that overcharging them just to get the correct amount is good either. Also, I have grandparents and parents who are seniors and all i ever hear is how much their prescription medicines cost. What kind of country do we live in when their out of pocket prescription cost is over 1/3 of their monthly medicare income? We are bilking the people who can't afford to pay. Then the government agencies are the ones who are writing them off and going broke. I used to work for a county hospital and know how much they had to write off because elderly were on medicare. Why should all those expensive dollars be paid to drug manufacturers, and the government or the elderly have to go in the red to pay for them? Thanks for listening.
