(not to mention the inhumane treatment of the animals themselves). We are in hopes you will grant the petition to prohibit the slaughter of downed animals for the following reasons: 1. We don't want sick/injured animals entering the food chain. 2. Bacterial/viral contamination and infection 3. Estimates that 90% of downed animals can be prevented with improved handling and care. 4. Compounded injuries in moving downed animals by dragging or pushing with tractors and chains. 5. Prohibiting the sales of these animals should cause no undue economic hardship, as the percentage is fairly small. Please consider our plea for these animals and our own health.
