Case Report: Infection/Neutropenia
45 yo man with splinter injury to hand on study day 55
- Study treatment:PEG-IFN/800mg R
- Day 58: splinter removed, wound cleansed, ANC 800
Wound infection
- Day 60: wound check, refused antibiotics
- Day 62-63: fever 39 C, agitation, oliguria
Septic shock, hospital admission
- Day 64: ANC 2600 then 0 within 12 hr, Blood cultures: Gram pos cocci
- Day 65: expired
Autopsy: Disseminated abscesses, splenic lymphocyte depletion
