Consequences of Misdiagnosis
5-10% have an identifiable cause
Patients will usually be driven to the physician due to:
- severity/persistence of itching
- failure to respond to self-treatment
- presence of other signs and symptoms suggestive of a more serious condition (joint pain, fever, discoloration of the hives etc.)
