Comments for FDA General
Questions
1. General Comments I am a person living with chronic pain. It is necessary for me to use a large amount of prescription narcotics/opiates to maintain even a baseline physical function. I currently take Oxycodone, Vicodin, and Diazepam for SOME pain relief and spasm reduction. These drugs are not as easy to get as many people would like to believe. Further restrictions on access to drugs such as these which help millions of people like myself LIVE with pain, would be tantamount to killing me. I say this because there is no possible way I could enjoy even a semblance of a quality of life without these medications. With these medications I am able to participate in some of the activities of daily living that most people take for granted. I can sometimes prepare breakfast for my children, drive them to school, occasionally walk for a short distance, spend sedentary time with my children in the afternoon, sit at a computer for about half-an-hour, go to a movie, cook dinner occasionally, etc. all because I have enough medication to reduce my pain to a mostly bearable level. Without drugs such as these, I truly would be unable to get out of bed, dress myself, stand up in a shower, talk and spend time with my children, drive even a short distance, perform small household chores, and so many other things that are part of daily life. Please use care and consideration when others call for a recall of drugs such as Oxycontin. These drugs make it possible for people like me to LIVE. Thank you, J. Beland
