Comments for FDA General
Questions
1. General Comments My husband is a chronic pain patient. It took 22 years to finally get proper pain relief for his Degenerative Disc Disease. For the last 3 years he has been on a pain program using 35mg of Methadose a day and 10mg of Oxycodone for breakthrough pain. He has got his life back. Before taking these medicines he was given the normal pain killers that tore up his stomach and gave hime ulcers. He was Rx'ed meds for high blood pressure and Prilosec for his stomach. These medicines offered only temporary relief and the cost to us for drugs was $700.00 a month. We are on a fixed income with medicare, no prescription coverage. We did a lot of research and discovered that Methadone and oxycodone or oxycontin were very effective for pain and the cost was hundreds of dollars less. Once the pain was controlled we were able to eleminate the costly high blood pressure medicines and there was no need for the prilosec. We now pay approximately $50 a month for meds and he is not constatnly sick or passed out from the painkillers. It is so important that these medicines remain available for legitimate pain patients. There will always be people who find a way to abuse a drug, but it is crucial that the opiods are there to treat pain. Please consider the millions of people in pain that need this drug. Sincerly Janie Cole Council Idaho
