At present, DCMS is comprised of two laboratory areas – materials characterization and polymer degradation and experimental pathology. The materials characterization laboratory focuses on materials composition, formulation, and chemical/physical parameters for structure determination, as well as, chemical, physical, thermal degradation, in-vitro and in-vivo studies for medical devices/materials. The experimental pathology area conducts experimental research in support of pre-clinical models for the evaluation of dental, orthopedic, and cardiovascular device applications. The technical expertise of the DCMS staff includes analytical chemistry, physics, polymer science, pharmacology, pathology, biomedical and chemical engineering.
