Biography
I am a Principal Physician with AstraZeneca based at Alderley Park in the UK. As part of my role I lead an international cross-functional Hepatotoxicity Safety Knowledge Group within AZ which is charged with advising AZ project teams on issues related to potential drug-induced liver injury (DILI), and also with co-ordinating scientific, clinical and regulatory efforts to increase AZ’s understanding of all aspects of DILI and its implications. Collaboration with colleagues in academia, regulatory agencies and other pharma companies is, I believe, crucial for the understanding, and ultimate elimination, of DILI.
My current role also involves assessing novel future opportunities for AZ outside of the company’s traditional therapy area portfolio. In 15 years of drug development I have held a variety of roles including the transition of new drugs into man, being the world-wide clinical lead for a major primary care brand, and in the patient safety group.
I gained my medical degree (MB) from the University of Edinburgh and a research degree (MD), from the same University, investigating the regulation of hepatic glucose-6-phosphatase activity, while training in Internal Medicine and Diabetes. I have been a reviewer and member of Editorial Boards of several journals.
Outside of work I enjoy looking after our small holding, I exercise whenever possible and sing in a choir.
