Dr. Robert
Justice has been selected as the Director of
the Division of Drug Oncology Products,
effective June 11, 2006. He brings a wealth of
clinical, regulatory, and scientific
experience to his new position.
Dr. Justice obtained his S.B. degree in Life
Sciences from the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology and received his medical degree
from the School of Medicine, University of
California at Davis. He also holds a Master's
degree in Biotechnology from Johns Hopkins
University. Dr. Justice did his internal
medicine residency and medical oncology
fellowship at the University of Hawaii and is
board-certified in hematology and oncology; he
has published numerous abstracts and papers in
the field of medical oncology.
Following completion of his post-graduate
training, Dr. Justice served as an Assistant
Professor in the Division of
Hematology/Oncology at the Texas Tech
University Health Sciences Center in Amarillo,
TX. He joined the FDA in 1985 and served as a
medical officer in the Division of Oncology
and Radiopharmaceutical Drug Products until
1989. He was briefly in private practice in
Honolulu, HI before returning to FDA as a
medical officer in the Division of Oncology
and Pulmonary Drug Products; he subsequently
served as a Medical Team Leader in that
division and later as deputy division director
and acting division director for the Division
of Oncology Drug Products.
Dr. Justice worked as a Senior Clinical
Scientist at Genentech from 2000 to 2002 on
new therapies for cancer before rejoining FDA
as director of the Division of
Gastrointestinal and Coagulation Drug
Products. He subsequently has served as deputy
director of the Division of Biologic Oncology
Products and then as acting director for DDOP
for several months, where he has done an
outstanding job.
