The FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, Office of Cellular, Tissue, and Gene Therapies is recruiting scientists to serve as Interdisciplinary Scientists in the dynamic, highly challenging, and innovative atmosphere of biological product review in the Gene Therapies Branch of the Division of Cellular and Gene Therapies (DCGT). DCGT staff reviews studies and data in the areas of somatic cell therapies, gene therapies, tissue-engineering, medical devices, combination products composed of cellular and medical device components, stem cell transplantation, xenotransplantation, and tumor vaccines and immunotherapy products. The applicant will have a review emphasis on gene therapy products involving viral vectors including retroviral and lentiviral vectors.
DCGT is strongly committed to bringing FDA and other scientists, patient advocates, and the public together in partnership to develop new therapies for the 21 st Century, while protecting human subjects and ensuring product safety. The applicant will be a part of this collaborative and cutting-edge regulatory and scientific environment.
Qualifications: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor’s or higher degree that included a major field of study.
Biologist- Degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
Microbiologist – Degree in microbiology; or biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that includes at least 20 semester hours in microbiology and other subjects related to the study of microorganisms, and 20 semester hours in the physical and mathematical sciences combining course work in organic chemistry or biochemistry, physics, and college algebra.
Preferred applicant’s to have a doctoral degree in virology, molecular biology, microbiology, or immunology, and a record of scientific productivity. Additional experience should include retroviruses, lentiviruses, and cell biology. Individuals with a doctoral degree and minimum 2 years post-doctoral training are preferred. Eligible individuals must be U.S. Citizens.
Salary Range: Civil Service salary range for GS-13 ($82,961- $107,854). The candidate may also be eligible for the PHS Commissioned Corps.
